Ear & Wax Cleaning

What we do

Ear Wax Removal

What is earwax and where does it come from?

Earwax production is a very natural, normal and healthy thing. Earwax is produced by oil glands in the outer part of the ear canal. The fancy name for earwax is cerumen. It is made up of sweat, dead skin cells, and oils. It has anti-bacterial properties and works like a protective layer between your ear canal and the outside elements. Earwax prevents dust, bacteria or anything else that enters the ear canal from reaching the eardrum and affecting your hearing.

Why do we need to remove earwax?

If left alone, normally earwax migrates out of the ear on its own. Sometimes though, it creates a blockage or builds up, causing earaches, feelings of fullness, ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and hearing aid issues.

How do you get rid of earwax?

You need to see someone who is trained in wax removal, someone who is trained in examining the ear and someone who has the proper tools and equipment.

STAY AWAY FROM Q-TIPS, THEY ONLY MAKE IT WORSE!

Here at London Audiology Consultants, we have several clinicians trained in wax removal by lighted curette and by water.

Manual removal involves using a lighted curette to remove wax from the ear canal.

For removal by water, we turn to the Earigator. The Earigator is a professional-grade wax removal device that gently and effectively flushes earwax from the ears. Because it has full temperature control (constantly regulating water to body temperature) and pressure control, it allows us to safely and comfortably clean ears in under 30 seconds.
